Labor Day Weekend

We had a great time (again!) at the cottage! Perfect weather. Fun, laughter, togetherness, good food, good conversations with loved ones. I am so grateful. I am posting some pics tonight as there will be no time tomorrow - we start full school days this week, and even though I have scheduled myself some computer time in the afternoons, I expect that the first few days of our full schedule will mean no down time for me.

One of my favorite things to do at the cottage is just sit on the dock and watch the world go by. It's so relaxing!

2 year old A got to "drive" Uncle D's tractor!

Uncle B's tug-barge (which hauls cement) went up the river while we were there! We almost never time it just right to be there when this happens, so it was a very big deal. We stood on the end of the dock with our binoculars and cell phone, and he stood outside the pilot house with his binoculars and cell phone, and we talked with each other and waved frantically as his boat went by. The captain even sounded the horn twice to salute us!

Shortly before leaving on Monday, my husband took our 8 year old son G to the dock for kite flying. If you look closely you can see a tiny kite towards the upper left side. It was a perfect day for flying a kite! On Saturday he took our 7 year old son L for a long walk down the railroad tracks and looking for frogs in a marshy area. I'm so grateful for the opportunities he takes to spend time with our boys one on one. Through the years we have found that to be particularly challenging since our children are so close in age, but God has either provided the opportunities or given us contentment in providing them with whole family time.

Though there is a mountain of laundry to do, dishes left in the sink from last Friday (yes, even though I cleaned the kitchen twice), and STUFF everywhere, it was worth it to create such wonderful memories. This is the stuff our lives are made of, no?
