R is for Rainbow!

Our young 5's class read several books about rainbows when we learned the sound that "r" makes, including A Rainbow of My Own by Don Freeman, and Ned's Rainbow by Melanie Walsh, and Moonbear's Skyfire by Frank Asch. We also learned a very cool mneumonic for remembering the order of colors in a rainbow ~ it sounds like a name: Roy G. Biv. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. I learned this the night before class from my sister Debbie, whose family is very science oriented! (Thanks Deb!)

We made edible rainbows by spreading an arc of vanilla frosting on some wax paper and sticking gummy lifesavers on to the frosting. Very fun! And hard not to eat while making. ;-)

Some of us didn't really follow the mneumonic. :-)

We finished off with raisins for snack.

Another fun day at co-op!

  1. This is really cute. I bet the edible rainbows were a huge hit! What type of sand (blue) is that at the top of the post? Is it something you made or bought? Looks like something that would be good for my sensory avoider. :-)

    Blessings
