Some of our neighbors put sealant on their driveway over the weekend, so they blocked off their portion of the sidewalk with caution tape. Son C, in an effort to avoid the caution tape/driveway, accidentally rode his bike across a small portion of their lawn. And got yelled at. He felt badly about getting yelled at, and as we were talking it through later he made a very insightful comment:
"They don't have any kids to take care of, so they put all their attention into their grass."
Lord, help me to give careful attention to that which lasts!
That reminds me of a neighbor we had when I was five. They lived on a corner with sidewalk on two sides of their lawn. I had just learned to ride my bike. I was riding down from one direction and just as I was about to head into the turn, I skid on some loose rock and fell into her yard. I was hurt and bleeding and she just yelled and yelled. She was a very mean and cranky woman. We never saw her smile in the two years we lived in that house. My mom reminded me that we need to pray even harder for her. Blessings.

ReplyDeletevery smart and insightful! wow!
ReplyDeleteWow, how awful. We have a barky dog and a 92 year old man living next door. After one particularly bad evening, I went over to meet him and apologize. He has a caregiver there and she introduced herself and explained that he couldn't meet us right then but said he loved our dog. He loves labs and so our dog was giving him joy even when he was barking because it reminded him of his old pets. I thought "what a great attitude. I need to be more like that."
ReplyDeleteso true! well said, C! A good reminder for us all!
