Busy
Last night was our end of the year MOPS banquet. It was fun to be with the MOPS moms one last time this school year, to celebrate all we have been through together this year, and to say thanks, give gifts, laugh laughs, shed tears. I do love MOPS and look forward to being involved again in the fall. I am thankful for the break though! I'm thankful for time to recharge my batteries.
Last week was our last day of homeschool co-op, and our closing program. I was really proud of our two youngest boys. The 3 year old insisted all day that he was not going to go on the platform and sing with the rest of his preschool class. He has been extra clingy for the last couple months, even to the point of hanging onto my leg and crying loudly when I would take him to his Sunday School room at church. So I was not pushing him to participate in the preschool group singing during the closing program. But when it came time for him to go up on stage, he excitedly grabbed my hand and went on up! I knelt behind him the whole time they were singing, and later he said to me in an accusing tone, "you stayed up there the whole time!". Oops.
Our 5 year old son C had taken a recorder class with his older brother G, and he had been comparing his playing to his older brother's playing and insisting that he wasn't good enough and he couldn't do it. I decided to not push him either, and when it came time for their class to go up on stage, he happily went on up and played his recorder VERY well! He was so proud of himself, and I was happy he had conquered his fear.
The work done by my drawing class students was on display and looked wonderful. Just really, really good. I am so proud of them!
I am praying about our co-op involvement for next year. We all love it, but it is getting harder as our kids get older to "give up" that one day a week of regular school work at home. I have been really encouraged to pray earnestly about every little homeschooling decision for this fall, and I am confident that God will direct us.
Our illegal friend and her family were finally reunited last Friday at the airport. Some INS officials escorted her husband from jail to the airport, and some dear friends from church drove the wife and her 4 children there. It was a sweet reunion for this family after 10 weeks of separation! And it was actual physical separation the whole time - during visits they could only see each other through a glass window, and talk through a phone. I am so happy they are all together again. The husband/father just would not let go of his sweet baby boy who was just a week old when he was arrested. They are back in their home country now. If the Lord brings them to mind, please keep this dear family in your prayers. It was so hard to say goodbye, yet we know that God is orchestrating some beautiful design through all this!
Our day today started with a severe bloody nose. Son C had never had a bad one before, and he just stood in the hallway crying "mommy!" while blood dripped allover his clothes and the floor. Now he knows what to do if it ever happens again. :-)

11th Reason I love my husband today
He bought me my very own copy of John Adams by David McCullough!!!! Thank you honey!!!! AND, he surprised me with it. This is hard to do. I went to my nightstand to grab the book and read a few pages while I brushed my teeth last night (is that too much information? it's a habit of mine to read while brushing) and lo and behold it was not the library copy but a brand new copy of my very own!
I have been loving this book from the library, but I've not had time to read much at each sitting, and it's not a book to race through. So my 3 weeks from the library are already up (plus a few days) and I'm not even halfway done. I have been stopping every few pages (or sometimes every few paragraphs!) to read snippets outloud to my hubby. It has captivated my attention and is a simply fascinating read. Now I won't have to choose between a hefty overdue fine or an unfinished read. I AM SO HAPPY.
I told you guys he was the best.....

Inside and Outside
We had a glorious spring day today! We started the day outside, playing and then reading. We sat in our crabapple tree and I read outloud from Early Thunder. We had a picnic lunch outside for the first time this spring! It was just wonderful.
After lunch and errands we came inside and continued with our schoolwork. I bought our daughter an electronic thesaurus today, and she had fun figuring out how it works and typing in words to find synonyms for! She was pretty excited about it.
Our son G finished putting together his lego boat that he got for his birthday, and we launched it and watched as it had its inaugural ride! The bottom of it is a solid piece for better floating, and it has a motor that makes it really go, so this was an exciting thing to watch!

Top Ten Reasons I love my husband today
1. He gave me his full attention yesterday as I shared about some curriculum options for next fall, and then we had a great discussion about them and with his input we made a final decision about one in particular. And bonus: His eyes did not glaze over!!!!
2. He is a GREAT dad. I love seeing him with our children.
3. He is the handsomest and sexiest man alive. When he walks into a room I still get butterflies in my stomach!
4. He is a hard worker and never complains about our paycheck to paycheck living right now.
5. He chooses words carefully, says what he means and means what he says.
6. He looks forward to having a 15 passenger van as much as some other men look forward to having a sports car!
7. He gives me great foot massages whenever I ask for them (which is often ~ I have very painful feet).
8. He is 110% committed to homeschooling and is wonderfully supportive of all I do during the day.
9. He loves to learn and is always teaching himself something. He has taught himself phrases and vocabulary words in several different languages, how to play the piano, and several different computer programming languages.
10. And the top reason I love my husband today.......(drumroll please)......HE FIXED THE VACUUM CLEANER!!!!!!!!!

Happy 9th Birthday!!!!!
To our oldest son G, how can I put in words what you mean to our family? You were our second miracle baby ~ the one we prayed for just as much as the first. We were thrilled to have a SON! We didn't know if God would bless us with more children, so we were grateful to have two healthy, beautiful children, and especially grateful to have one of each gender. I was so excited to meet the second little person that God had made for our family, though I was nervous at the thought of mothering two. Did I have enough love??
The second I saw you I fell instantly in love with you! My heart expanded exponentially. Though we had only just met, I couldn't imagine life without you. From the beginning you had the same easy-going personality that you have now.
You brought us such joy! And you still do! I love the way you think about things, how you analyze information, how you teach yourself things you want to know. I love how thoughtful you are of others. I love how sensitive you are to God's Spirit, and how you so want to be the young man that God wants you to be. Daddy and I are very proud of you, and we love you very much. In fact, I love you as much as infinity. And I will always love you, no matter what.

Overheard.....
Okay, just one more. And I will admit this one is completely self-serving. I just have to write it down for the ages, before I forget. It was a sweet moment. :-)
5 year old C, as I was standing in his doorway tonight after praying with him and tucking him into bed: "You know, you are like the prettiest girl that I seen in my whole entire life!"
And lest my head get too big with that wonderful compliment, his roommate, 7 year old L said: " Yes, you're kindof fat in your belly 'cause you didn't lose enough weight after all those babies, but other than that you're doing pretty good!"
