Powhatan Indian Village

On Monday we went to Jamestown Settlement, which includes a replica of the original Jamestown colony, replicas of the ships that carried the colonists here, and a replica of an Indian Village. Here we are in front of the Settlement Visitor Center.

G, A, and G inside an Indian wigwam. The wood frame beds were covered with many, many, many animal furs and they were SO soft and comfortable! There were baskets and traps and drying vegetables hanging from all the sides of the wigwam. It was large and cozy. Very nice!

We tried our hands at scraping animal skins which were stretched out to dry.

This was extremely well done. There were workers dressed as Indians, doing traditional Indian crafts such as weaving, etc. We saw "needles" made from bone and "thread" made from sinew. We got to grind corn and chase chickens and roosters around the garden! (our boys really loved that!). It was wonderful!
